Background & Test Details:

Webstage, a Canadian web optimization firm, conducted this coupon incentive test for their client, Roots, an iconic Canadian clothing retailer.

Testing the effect of a coupon offering, the study goal was to increase completed email sign-ups – without cannibalizing product profits.


Hypothesis:

The testing team suspected a coupon incentive would increase email sign-ups and timing of the offer would be key to conversions.

But, they weren’t sure what kind of offer would be needed to most move the needle. Nor, were they sure the optimal timing to display the pop-up. So, decided to test.


Test Set-up:

To determine the optimal format, an A/B test was set-up and run on WebStage’s proprietary personalization platform.

The study ran for 30 days. During this time, over 400 thousand visitors took part in the test. Traffic was split 50/50.

Half of visitors saw the coupon offering the $10 off incentive. It looked like this:
